Two-way radios found
Two teen-age boys have been questioned by the Christchurch C. 1.8. concerning the theft in Christchurch about two month* ago of 30 two-way radios worth $7OOO. Detective Superintendent B. Wilkinson said that the boys, aged 14 and 15, had admitted responsibility for the theft, but inquiries into the matter were still proceeding. The radios were recovered, but most of them were in pieces. It is thought that the radio parts had been used to make experiments with transmitting equipment. Some of the equipment was found In the home of one of the boys in Lower Cashmere; the remainder was in a nearby section. The radios were taken from Christchurch City Council and Heathcote County Council trucks, and vans of local carrying firms, during September and October. The picture (left) shows Detective R. S. Brickmann with some of the radios.
