RHODESIAN EDUCATION
The Rhodesian Government’s spending on African education had increased progressively, from sl2m in 1962-63 to s29m for the current financial year, according to the Rhodesia Information Centre in Australia. Primary school enrolments had risen from 560,356 in 1962 to 639,043 in 1971, secondary school enrolments from 5972 to 22,270, and enrolments in the new junior secondary schools from 70 in 1966 to 3807. Almost half the 1200 students at the University of Rhodesia were black Rhodesians and most were on grants and scholarships paid for by the Government, thp centre said.
