Safety measure delayed
(N.Z.P. A-Reuter —Copyright; CINCINNATI, Dec. 6. The United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals has postponed the compulsory use of air bags in motor cars, and has ordered further testing of the safety devices, which were to have been standard equipment in all American cars in 1975. The Court said problems had been discovered in the air bags, including a high noise-level and the possibility of them opening when a child stood near the dashboard. The Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had ordered that air bags be standard equipment in all cars, beginning in 1975. The Chrysler Corporation, Ford Motor Corporation, i American Motors Corporation, Jeen Corporation, and Automobile Importers of I America appealed against |that order, which resulted fn j today’s Court ruling.
