Above-ground pools are now very popular

able rise in popularity in above-ground swimming pools during the last few seasons. About 700 of them have been installed in Christchurch since they became available and many more will probably be sought this coming season. The pools are available in sizes suitable for tiny tots and adults alike. For children, under seven there are splasher pools 18in and 2ft deep and for older children and adults there are pools 3ft and 4ft deep varying in diameter from 15ft to 24ft. There are also rectangular pools 30ft long by 15ft wide with a centre depth of up to sft 6in. They come complete with a filtration plant and all pool equipment. They are amply suited for both children and adults and because of their ease of assembly arid low cost they are very popular. They are priced from $179 for the 12ft pool to $209 for the 15ft pool. These prices include the pool itself, a filter unit, automatic surface skimmer, pool ladder, leaf skimmer, water test kit, pool chlorine, ground cover and jet vacuum.

Moving into the more expensive range there are two models — the Premier and Sunsoka. They are large, ranging in capacity from 4400 gallons to 10,200 gallons and include these sizes: 15ft diameter by 4ft, 18ft by 4ft, 24ft by 4ft, 24ft long by 12ft wide by 4ft deep and 30ft long by 15ft wide by 4ft deep. The prices range from $375 to $945 and in each case include extensive equipment for maintenance. All the pools are of steel sidewall construction. The steel is galvanised and ribbed for strength. Depending on the size of the pool there are additional strengthening features in the way of top rails, bottom rails and vertical members. Into the metal sidewall is placed a very heavy P.V.C. liner to contain the water. There is no structural strain on the liner which merely stops the water from escaping. The entire range of the above-ground pools can be erected by any competent handyman. The firm which arranges their sale will also arrange inspection of the erected pool to ensure that everything is as it should

be. Another above-ground pool now available uses a heavy steel mesh as the surround. The pool is available in diameters of

12ft, 18ft and 24ft and a single depth of 3ft 9in. Prices range $515 to $BB2 and include all ancillary equipment.
