Celebrations in family

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Nov. 5. Good news came today for Mrs Valerie Laney, wife of Oamaru’s new member of Parliament, Mr W. R. Laney, and mother of Dr Michael Laney. Mrs Laney heard in a telephone call from her son in Dunedin that he had gained his M. 8., Ch.B., and was to be capped on Thursday. Earlier, her husband had telephoned to tell her that his provisional majority in the General Election had been increased from 354 to 390. Mrs Laney said she was delighted that the official count had confirmed Mr Laney’s election, “but what Is more important and thrilling to me is that Michael has qualified.” In the meantime, Mr Laney was in the chair at a joint committee meeting of the Oamaru Borough Council, unaware that his son had qualified.
