SKID PAN PLAN
A meeting next year A meeting to discuss the provision of a skid pan in the Christchurch area for the use of motorists will be called by the Automobile Association (Canterbury) early next year. The association’s council decided on Thursday evening on die recommendation of its national motoring and traffic committee. The council also decided to support a South Canterbury association suggestion that it be made an offence to drive a vehicle with parking lights only showing. It also agreed to draw the attention of the New Zealand Automobile Association to a new Australian regulation making it an offence to turn or diverge left without a signal. The national motoring and traffic committee said that the council had, for many years, advocated a similar regulation in New Zealand. The council was told that association membership now stood at 76,300, and that during October patrols bad helped 525 motorists, put up 281 signs, and travelled 20,543 miles.
The technical department checked 455 cars and dealt with 1120 telephone inquiries. In the six months to October, 269 students completed high school driving education courses.
