Voyage to Tokelaus
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 24. The Government motor vessel Moana Roa is making a special voyage to the Tokelau Islands with materials to build three new hospitals, the Minister of Island Affairs (Mr Maclntyre) said in a statement today. The vessel leaves this week-end and will also take C.0.R.5.0. hurricane relief supplies to Fiji. The special voyage to the Tokelaus was to overcome logistic problems in the Administration’s works programme. Delays have occurred in transporting materials in the past because of the remoteness of the group. “By using the Moana Roa to take most of the materials at the one time the building teams can make an immediate start on the hospitals and continue their work without the interruptions which are sometimes experienced through materials not being available when required,” Mr Maclntyre said. The vessel will also take home for leave Tokelauan students studying under the New Zealand training scheme.
