Merino wool prices at the Melbourne wool sale today were generally unchanged on yesterday's closing levels, but comebacks and crossbreds were up to 5c per kilo dearer. Competition was keen to the end of the sale, the trade purchasing 98.5 per cent of the 12,139 bales on offer. The Australian Wool Commission took less than 0.5 per cent, and 1 per cent was passed in. On the final day of the Newcastle wool sale demand was somewhat limited for fine and superfine spinners’ wools, and the values for these were up to 10c per kilo cheaper. Medium and broadermedium fleece and skirtings met better competition, values being generally unchanged from yesterday’s closing levels. Clearance to the trade was 94 per cent; the Australian Wool Commision acquired 5 per cent; and 1 per cent was passed in.
