Turner for the Tate
The Tate Gallery, London, has purchased Turner’s oil painting, “Fishermen at Sea,” which Turner exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1796. This was the first oil painting he exhibited at the Academy, though he had exhibited watercolours there since 1790. It shows the Isle of Wight and The Needles, and was based on a sketching tour Turner made in the Isle of Wight in 1795.
