The food group index of the Consumers’ Price Index rose by 13 points—or 0.9 per cent—from September to; October, reports the Government Statistician (Mr J. P. Lewin). This increase was the highest since January, Nevertheless, because of the greater stability of food prices during the year, prices in October were only 3.7 per cent higher than in October, 1971, Mr Lewin says. Seasonal fruit and vegetables contributed 4| points to the rise in the all food index. Beef and sheepmeats contributed 3| points each, and bacon and ham 3 points."
