Levels county values rise
The capital value of the Levels County advanced by almost SBm between March, 1968, and July, 1972, the manager of the Valuation Department (Mr V. R. Aitken) said yesterday. The new capital value is $43,673,200, the new land value is $23,892,700, and the value of improvements, $19,780,500. The rural district valuer at Timaru (Mr R. M. Donaldson) said that there had been steady improvement throughout the county, particularly in buildings and fencing. The introduction of a sewerage plant at Pleasant Point had accelerated development in the township with a consequent reduction in the number of vacant sections. The introduction of a 50acre minimum subdivision area had noticeably changed the use of land from farming to semi-urban. The land market had been relatively active in recent years for most types of properties, particularly those capable of diversified production. The demand for small blocks close to Timaru had greatly intensified and sales generally were sufficient to establish a sound basis for the new level of values. The valuation roll will be open for inspection from now until December 1 at the Timaru office of the Valuation Department.
