New stakes schedule

Trotting clubs with programmes already approved will, in many instances, have to increase their stakes to comply with a new minimum stakes schedule approved yesterday in Christchurch by the executive of the Trotting Conference.

The new schedule affects classes from 2:16, the minimum level for the other slower classes being governed by the stakes subsidy scheme of the Racing Authority. The increases for pacers vary between $3OO and $5OO, while for trotters the increases are mainly from $lOO to $3OO, but for classic and semi-classic events the increase is $5OO to $l5OO.

The increases would apply immediately, said the president of the conference (Mr R. J, Rolfe, of Thames). None of the races at the Metropolitan Club’s cup meeting, which will open today at Addington Raceway, are affected, tne club paying well in advance of the new minimum schedule for all classes. In restricted free-for-all events the minimum stakes to be paid shall be the amount which is half-way between the minimums for the two classes. For example, the minimum for a 2:16-2:15 class event will be $1875.

Clubs running division events are asked wherever possible to pay a full stake for each division, or pay a winning stake in each division and reduced money for the other placings. The new minimum schedule, with increases, as it applies to races with limits of 2:16 and faster is: Pacers Class Schedule Increase
