SWEDISH TENNIS
Good win to Newcombe (N.Z.P.A.-Rcuter) GOTHENBERG (Sweden). J. D. Newcombe (Australia), three times the Wimbledon champion, gave a grand display of serve and volleying power to blitz his fellow-countryman, R. Emerson, 6-0, 6-3, 6-1, in the final of the Swedish open tennis championships. Newcombe lost only 11 points in 11 games on his own serve, and won in 59 minutes. "I don’t think I have ever played any better,” said the 27-year-old Australian, who has won six tournaments on the World Championship Tennis circuit since May. The victory was worth $lO,OOO, and increased Newcombe’s earnings for the year to $105,250. T, Okker (Netherlands) and M. Riessen (United States) won their fifth doubles title in six weeks, defeating I. el Shafei (Egypt) and B. E. Fairlie (New Zealand), 6-2, 7-6, in the final.
