Godfrey in cup golf

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE.

The New Zealand golfer, W. Godfrey, ended an injury scare yesterday with an assurance that he would be playing in the opening round of the World Cup series in Melbourne on Thursday. Godfrey went out for a practice round yesterday to test the effects of injured tendons in his left hand. Later he said that although the hand was still sore, he expected it to improve in time. He scored a 73. T. Kendall, who led the first round of the Qantas Australian Open in Adelaide, had been alerted to stand by to partner R. J. Charles in case Godfrey was forced to withdraw. After the all-clear, Kendall made arrangements to return home to New Zealand.
