Hereford breeders in Canterbury were the first in the country, among members of their association, to have bulls in a performance test or trial. The president of the Canterbury Hereford Cattle Breeders’ Club, Mr H. G. Jamieson, recalled recently that breeders in the Te Kuiti area in the North Island had been the first to propose the establishment of a trial but he had felt that a trial in that area would not be of much benefit to Canterbury people working under totally different conditions.
