REMAND IN CUSTODY
An Ashburton youth, aged 17, who appeared before Mr J. D. Kinder, S.M., in the Ashburton Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of attempting to murder a man in Ashburton late on Sunday evening, was remanded in custody to appear in the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court next Monday, November 13.
He was granted interim suppression of his name. An order was made that he be kept apart from other adult prisoners as far as practicable.
Sergeant J. R. Wheeler, who prosecuted for the police and sought the remand in custody, said the accused had been arrested at 1 a.m. that morning. Further inquiries had still to be made. Mr J. E. F. Moon, who appeared for the accused, consented to the remand and asked for interim suppression of name. He said the alleged offence arose out of a family dispute.
