Chain of office A proposal by Cr R. S. Mayer that a chain of office be provided for the chairman was referred by the Paparua County Council last evening to its finance committee. “I know this was not received with enthusiasm the last time I raised it, but a chain would add dignity to ceremonies and be fitting for a county of 28,000 people,” he said. Widening tcork Approval for the taking of 56 perches of land off the frontage of Denton Park for the widening of the Main South Road at Hornby was given by the Paparua County Council last evening. The District Commissioner of Works (Mr P. F. Reynolds) wrote seeking the approval, and said that the Ministry of Works was now acquiring land for the work. Infectious diseases Four cases of infective hepatitis were reported in the Christchurch health district for the week ended November 4, the Medical Officer of Health (Dr L. F. Jepson) said yesterday. Other notifiable diseases reported were two cases of salmonellosis, two of pulmonary tuberculosis and one of nonpulmonary tuberculosis.
