One-hour race to J. Macdonald

J. D. Macdonald (Olympic) led all the way for a decisive win in the Canterbury Road Runners Association's annual one-hour race at Rugby Park yesterday. He covered 18,026 metres. D. J. Reece (Olympic) had a close tussle to beat his clubmate and last year’s winner, R. Yardley, into third place, with D. Greig (New Brighton) fourth. J. Hinton (Christchurch) completed the race in 11th place after coming straight from the Christchurch Harrier Club’s all-

night relay run back from Greymouth, held to raise funds for the Commonwealth Games. C. Baxter (Methodist) ran well to be first veteran (over 40) runner home in eighth place. L. Edwards (New Brighton) was second and G. Curry (United) third. Out of a field of 24 starters 19 finished. Results (with the distances covered by each runner in parenthesis) were:— J. D.
