Pet lamb killed
Midnight, a black lamb which was the pet of the children at Cholmondeley Home in Governor’s Bay, is dead.
He arrived at the home two months and a half ago after travelling from Waimate in a cycle pannier bag and was a firm favourite with the 30 or so children who have stayed at the home since then.
They vied with each other for the chance to feed Midnight or for the honour of taking him for a walk. He was such a favourite that at times he virtually took up residence in the home rather than in the grounds.
On Saturday evening Midnight was killed by a large white dog. Staff at the home chanced upon the scene as the dog was savaging the lamb and, although the dog was driven off, the lamb was dead.
