MR KIRK CRITICAL
The Labour Party, if it became the Government, would ensure payment of the general wage adjustment based on increased costs of living to railway and post office employees, the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) said last evening. Mr Kirk said that members of Parliament had been sent circulars by the Post Office and the Railway employees’ associations concerning their exclusion from the payment of the award. This exclusion was a consequence of the application of certain provisions of the Government’s regulations relating to rates or pay under the stabilisation regulations. "It is the Labour Party’s policy to abolish the Remuneration Authority. The effect of this will result in Post Office and railway employees gening the proper amount that is due to them," he said. "As the Government, the party will be willing to discuss the general question of wage fixing and other related matters with the Combined State Services Organisation, and particularly with the Post Office and railways employee association.”
