PUMORI CLIMB

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) KATMANDU, Nov. 5. The French expedition of eight men has succeeded in conquering the 22,000-foot Mount Pumori, in northeast Nepal, according to an official message received in Katmandu today. Two members of the advance team reached the summit yesterday by the rocky south face route, without using oxygen. The expedition, led by Mr Yves Pellet Villard, had been forced back to Camp Three at 20,000 feet on October 23, after reaching to within 1000 feet of the summit, because of heavy snowstorms and strong winds. Mount Pumori was conquered by a West German team in 1962, but on that occasion the climbers used the easier north-east route.
