Amin says ‘buy up’
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) KAMPALA, Nov. 5. President Amin has announced that the multimillion - pound Madhyani group of companies is open to purchase by Ugandan Africans, Radio Uganda reports.
Speaking at a meeting with the managers of State-owned hotels, General Amin said that the group’s managing director and part-owner, Mr Manubhai Madhvani, would have to leave the country by Wednesday, the deadline for the expulsion of non-citizen Asians. Mr Madhvani is a British citizen, and is expected to go to London. General Amin announced earlier this week he would not be granted Ugandan citizenship. According to the radio, General Amin “appealed to all Ugandans to apply for loans and take over big firms like those owned by the Madhvani group.” He said the banks had plenty of money, but no-one was borrowing it now.
