Advance celebration
The London Fire Brigade was called to deal with 374 bonfires out of control last night, as the capital celebrated Guy Fawkes Night a day early. The brigade received 821 telephone calls for help on the eve of the anniversary of the gunpowder plot of 1605 in which the Roman Catholic militant, Guy Fawkes, tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament.—London, November 5. .
