New note in campaign
(From Our Own Reporter) NELSON, Nov. 3
With the election campaign less than a week old, the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) has developed a throat condition. The rasp in his voice was noticeable at the start of his lunch-time address to about 450 people at the Church Steps, Nelson, today, and became more pronounced the longer he spoke. Later, Mr Kirk said that he had suffered a throat chill and this was affecting his voice. But one of those travelling with the official party on its whistlestop tour through Marlborough, Nelson and Golden Bay today, laid some of the blame for his throatiness on the lack of a microphone at one of his addresses.
The group left Nelson after lunch for meetings at Richmond, Wakefield and at Motueka tonight
