5 years for robbery
(N.Z. Press Association) I INVERCARGILL, Nov. 3. A 22-year-old Christchurch man who “tried to lie his way out” of an aggravated robbery charge, was sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Chief Justice (Sir Richard Wild) in the Invercargill Supreme Court this morning. Stephen Charles Goddard had earlier pleaded, not guilty Ito the charge before an allI male jury, but after being j found guilty, was remanded .until today for sentence. • The charge resulted from au incident at the Avenal Hotel in Invercargill on Augi ust 7, when Goddard and Raymond Neil Forrester rob- | bed a 62-year-old Mosgiel man of $ll in his hotel room. Forrester, who pleaded guilty, was last week sentenced to six years’ imprisonment for his part in the offence.
On two charges of burglary, Goddard was sentenced to two years imprisonment, to be concurrent with the previous term. He was also ordered to pay restitution of $101.15, and an order was made for the return of the recovered property, which amounted to $100.50,
