Official report and range of prices

The official report on yesterday’s Christchurch wool sale, issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers’ Association in conjunction with the New Zealand Wool Commission, says:

"The offering of 21,032 bales was drawn mainly from Canterbury and Marlborough, with a small percentage of crossbred types from Nelson and the West Coast. The wool on display comprised mainly Corriedale and halfbred, with woolly hogget predominating. There was a small but representative selection of Merino and crossbred ewe and hogget wool catalogued. "The hogget wool generally came forward in good condition and was better grown than the ewe fleece, which showed the effects of the dry spring and tended to accentuate the lambing cheek. The dry conditions were also reflected in the clips from the Canterbury plains, which were faulted with dust and a degree of tenderness

“There was the usual range of oddments on display, these being of good length and colour.

“There was general competition, mainly from the Continent and Eastern Europe, with support from Japan and Canterbury mills.

“Compared with the previous Auckland sale, fine crossbred fleece was 7j to 10 per cent dearer, medium to strong 2j to 5 per cent up. and oddments were dearer by 5 to 7 J per cent. “Compared with the previous Timaru sale. Merino was 12J per cent down, with fine halfbred fleece 12J to 15 per cent cheaper, while medium and strong halfbred was 17J to 20 per cent easier. Halfbred skirtings were down by 12J per cent and halfbred oddments were 20 to 22J per cent cheaper. “Prompt date for the sale is November 21.” RANGE OF PRICES
