Dull trading on steady Australian markets
Shares prices tended steady in very quiet trading on Australian exchanges yesterday. Established miners were dull with the exception of Bougainville, while industrials and oils showed little movement.
Miners generally had a dull day’s trading with the exception of Bougainville, which climbed 15c to 240 c. Hamersley and N.B.H.C. Holdings also firmed, rising 5c and 10c respectively, but Peko weakened slightly to fall 10c to 980 c and Poseidon fell 20c to 1020 c. Of the speculatives, which were easier, Roebourne was hit the hardest, falling 22c to 282 c. 8.H.P., after a strong improvement in London overnight, only gained a 5c rise to 1095 c. Bank of New South Wales gained 6c to 920 c while C.S.R. had a 2c rise to 552 c.
National Bank, which has! reported a higher profit, fell! 5c to 400 c in Melbourne. Oil movements were marginal. Woodside-Burmah rose to 300 c in Sydney, but finished the day at 290 c, while in Melbourne Santos fell 15c to 250 c, but most others were steady.
