OUT AGAIN ON SUNDAY
Interest will be focused on B. G. Stockwell from two cycling angles this week-end. While enthusiasts from the province will be hoping that he will today become only the second Canterbury cyclist to win the Dulux six-day race, his presence will also lend great stature to the U.E.B. track carnival at English Park tomorrow. The track meeting is one of the major sporting
involvements of the Hornby Festival and it is typical of Stockwell’s attitude to the sport that he will compete in it. Most other cyclists would have found the 627 miles of this week quite enough, but Stockwell — returning to Christchurch by inter-island ferry tomorrow evening—is happy to ride. After Sunday, he is likely to take a break from the track, at least until after Christmas. It is a break from tradition that the track season should start with a daylight meet-
ing, but this has been made necessary by the sponsorship and the festival. At least four national representatives— Stockwell, J. P. S. Mullan, R. K. A. Anderson and M. W, Litolff—will probably corn* pete. The Marlin five-mile scratch race will climax the meeting, but as much interest will probably lie in the Mono two-mile wheelrace. This carries a bigger prize for winning than most track events and should be most keenly contested, especially as it is a handicap race.
