A flare goes skyward in Cathedral Square last evening to mark the start of a sponsored trek to Timaru by a group of young people. They hope to raise $l000 for the relief of distress caused by Hurricane Bebe. The Mayor, Mr Pickering (centre), saw the group on its way. S. Howard (left) and J. Kingan (right) are two of the group taking part in the trek.
