Extension to Groynes
There is catchment board land on the lower Waimakariri River with a low or even nil potential for farming or any other productive use, but because it is close to Christchurch it has a definite recreational function and value, according to the chairman (Dr W. R. Holmes), speaking at the annual meeting yesterday of the North Canterbury Catchment Board.
He referred particularly to the Waimairi County Council’s plans to develop 155 acres along the South Branch as an extension to the Groynes reserve, the board having leased the land to the county.
“A major long-term landscaping and use plan has been prepared by the council, and work has started,” he said.
Naval service The Canterbury Merchant Navy Centre invites members of all interested organisations to attend a special service in the Christchurch Cathedral at 11 a.m. on November 19. The service will be arranged by the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. M. L. Underhill), and the Rev. R. A. Lowe will address the congregation.
