Large beer loss
(N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, Nov. 3. The theft of a large quantity of beer from a consignment on an Auckland-Timaru freight train is being investigated by the police. Nearly 190 dozen bottles of beer with a retail value of $439 were taken. The bulk shipment of beer, which travelled from Auckland via Wellington, the Cook Strait ferry Aramoana, Picton, and Christchurch arrived at Timaru at 7.30 a.m. on Thursday. About 9 a.m. the loss was discovered from three different waggons in the Timaru railway marshalling yards—--90 crates of pint bottles, two crates of quart bottles, and 81 quart bottles from various crates. The beer carried the labels of “Dominion” or “Waitemata Bitter.”
