Exotic meal for fund
An Oriental dinner held by the Canterbury Travel Club on Wednesday evening raised $3OO for the Town Hall Organ Fund. A cheque for this amount was presented to the chairman of the Town Hall Committee (Mr H. G. Hay) by the club president (Mrs Sedley Wells).
The dinner was held in the Limes Room, which was decorated for the occasion with a “Japanese garden” set-piece and Ikebana floral arrangements. More than 400 members of the club attended.
The evening’s entertainment included items by Indian dancers, Japanese vocal solos by Mrs Cheiko Breeze, Chinese shadow boxing by Hui Looi Chi and Rory Tam, compered by the Japanese Consul (Mr J. S. Pallot), and five Thai girls who gave a parade of their national dress.
