SUPREME COURT Three accused found guilty
After a retirement of two hours and 50 minutes a jury in the Supreme Court yesterday found Ronald Wi McLean, aged 32, a shearer, Peter Kaimoana, aged 33, a carpenter, and Larry Hemi Matthews, aged 21, a plasterer guilty on a joint charge of being in possession of instruments of burglary at Woodend on September 7. The jury also found McLean and Kaimoana guilty on a joint charge of burglary of the Totalisator Agency Board building at Hanmer Springs on September 7. Matthews pleaded guilty to that charge on arraignment. Mr Justice Haslam remanded the three accused in custody to a date to be fixed for sentence. The three accused were found not guilty on two joint charges of burglary of two explosives store sheds at Pumham on or about September 6. Mr N. W. Williamson appeared for the Crown, Mr M. J. Glue for McLean and Mr E. F. Higgins for Kaimoana and Matthews.
