Seat for life
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Nov. 2.
The man who designed a plastic lavatory seat to replace wooden seats has been made a life member of the Plastics Institute of New Zealand.
He is Mr G. Calvert, chairman of Calvert Plastics, of Stokes Valley, who regards the seat as his most notable achievement in his 30 years association with the industry. Before it, he said at the annual conference of the institute in Wellington yesterday, only wooden lavatory seats were available in New Zealand. The Calvert seat has been sold all over the world. “Never has one man’s idea been sat on by so many,” he said.
