Drawings closed
(From Our Own Reporter)
TIMARU, Nov. 1
Until there is a radical change in the behaviour of some visitors, Maori rock drawings in a cave on Mr R. D. Gould’s property at Pleasant Point will not be accessible to the public. The drawings, which include the two taniwhas reproduced on a 20 cent New Zealand stamp issued in 1960, are listed by the National Historic Places Trust, and and are regarded as among the finest in the country. The drawings have been defaced, permission to see them has not always been sought, and the failure of sightseers to close the gates has caused Mr Gould inconvenience.
