Rider for Hayburner
(N.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY. N. Voigt, regarded as a top rider of stayers, has been offered the mount on the New Zealand-owned stayer, Hayburner, in the Melbourne Cup next Tuesday. In a quick trip to Sydney on Tuesday night, Hayburner’s partowner and trainer. J. Cowan, contacted Voigt. He also wanted Voigt to handle the seven-year-old in the Hotham Handicap at Flemington on Saturday but the jockey has engagements at Rosehill that day. "I will probably ride Hayburner in the cup, but I’ll tell the trainer for sure on Thursday," Voigt said yesterday. Hayburner has won his last two starts in Victoria.
