RECORD CARGO
I Another record tonnag! | was reported to the Lyttel ton Harbour Board yesterday bv the general manager (M iJ. A. McPhail).
I Up to the end of September, which ended the board s financial year, 1.919.281 tons of cargo were handled at the port. This was an increase of 145.246 tons on the 1970-71 trade.
Both imports and exports showed increases, 98,765 tons and 46.481 tons respective!). In a break-down of the figures. Mr McPhail showed that among the big increases in trade were 20.399 more tons of coal and coke, mostly coke being exported to Nev.Caledonia, 58.804 more tons lof motor vehicles and parts. 32,128 tons more of petroleum products, the imports of [which were the greatest individual item at 449,632 tons, and 50,807 tons more of containerised goods. Grain exports increased by 13,608 tons.
The inner harbour handled 88.79 per cent of the cargo, with liquid bulk cargo contri buting 460,288 tons, and I Cashin Quay 11.21 per cent
