Cost of rise in benefits
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Nov. 1
The cost of implementing the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Social Security, which were approved subsequent to the Budget and included in the recent Social Security Amendment Act, was s2m a year, said the Minister of Social Welfare (Mr AdamsSchneider) today.
The reduction from 20 to 10 years in the residential qualification for age and invalids’ benefits was alone estimated at slm a year, he said. “It must be remembered that this s2m will be spent in addition to the increased social security expenditure of s77m a year which resulted from the increased benefit rates and other measures announced in this year’s Budget,” said Mr Adams-Schnei-der.
