War pensions increased

(New Zealand Pres, Association) WELLINGTON, November 1. War Disablement pensions and War widows’ pensions have been increased, and the increases will be backdated to October 1.

I Announcing this today, |the Minister in charge of i War Pensions (Mr Mcj Cready) said war disablement pensions for total disablement would be increased by $l.BO to SI7JO a week, and proportionate increases would be made for pensioners with a lesser degree of disablement.

The additional pension payable in certain cases of more serious disablement would be increased by $1 JO to $10.40 a week, he said in a statement.

The combined effect of these two increases was an increase of up to $3 a week in the rate of war disablement pension payable to the

more seriously disabled exservicemen.

The increase in basic war widows’ pensions was SIJS a week, making the rate of pension payable in these cases $12.60 a week. “The review giving rise to these increases was carried out as a result of the Government’s undertaking in April this year to adjust war disablement and war widows’ pensions from October 1, on the basis of movements in the Consumers’ Price Index,” said Mr McCready. The Government has also undertaken to adjust these pensions from April 1, 1973, and annually thereafter, on the basis of future movements in the Consumers’ Price Index.
