DRIVER’S APPEAL
$lOO fine quashed

An appeal by the Manurewa racing driver, P. Fahey, against a fine of $lOO, imposed on him for alleged negligent driving at the New Zealand grand prix last January, has been upheld by the Royal Automobile Club stewards resident in New Zealand.
Fahey appeared before Motorsport Association of New Zealand stewards after the running of a Bank of New South Wales championship race on January 8. In the race, it was alleged that his car came into contact with that of another competitor. The stewards found against him and imposed the fine. The protest which led to the inquiry was lodged by an Auckland driver, J. Riley. The appeal to the R.A.C. stewards was heard before Messrs A. A. Coates, S.M. (chairman), T. M. N. Rogers (Palmerston North) and J. N. Lemon (Dunedin), Mr W. Simpson, of Papakura, appeared for Fahey. After an all-day hearing, the stewards upheld the appeal.
