UNCERTAIN TRADING ON QUIET NEW ZEALAND MARKET
The sharemarket leaders were mainly firm in quiet trading on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday. However, sellers were more numerous than buyers on the Christchurch boards at the close of trading.
M. S. D. Speirs, Skel- ; letup, and Tasman were 'traded 5c higher. Leyland Investments jumped 11c to 125 c. The previous sale was on October 2, and so the market could be merely adjusting the price for the increase in the company’s portfolio since then. Among the falls, Bell, Medical Supplies, and Trans Holdings new were down 5c while J. Rattrav lost 8c at 150 c. U.E.B. lost 2c at 106 c in quieter trading. Allied Farmers, formerly j N.A.F., was steady at 255 c lin the first day of trading I under the new name..
Feltex was steady at 420 c Rafter the comments of the chairman (Mr I. D. Reid) at the annual meeting.
New Zealand Insurance rose 5c to 347 c, and South British 2c to 580 c, but National Insurance was down 5c at 515 c. C.P.D. and Carter Holt gained 3c each. Freightways was 3c firmer at 265 c, while the rights were unchanged at 105 c. RISES New Zealand Price Var’n i Assoc Motels (A) 66 1
