Trek to Timaru
Three or four young men and a dog will take part in a 100-mile sponsored trek to Timaru at the week-end in an effort to raise several hundred dollars for hurricane damage relief in Fiji.
The men, all members of the Young Christian Workers’ Movement, will leave Christchurch on Friday evening from outside the Christchurch Cathedral and expect to arrive in Timaru on Sunday evening. A spokesman for the trekkers (Mr J. Kingan) said yesterday that they had hoped to raise $lOOO from the trek, but so far the response had been poor.
“How’ever, we will push a pram with us which will contain, among other things, cash boxes to contain such money as we should be able to collect on the way,” Mr Kingan said. “So far, only a few hundred dollars have been promised.” The money raised will be put towards the Hurricane Bebe Appeal, organised by C.0.R.5.0.
