SAIGON, Oct. 30.
The United States 7th Fleet has halted its off-shore bombardment of the North Vietnamese coast above the 20th parallel in a continuing de-escalation as a sign of good will during critical negotiations to complete an Indo-China peace agreement, it was learned today, the Associated Press reported.
Earlier, the United States Secretary of Defence (Mr Melvin Laird) had confirmed that all air attacks over North Vietnam above the 20th parallel had been halted, but he made no mention of a cessation of bombardment of targets by 7th Fleet cruisers and destroyers.
