REPORT TO MINISTER
Council views on planning
The Ministry of Works | (Mr Allen) will be told of the results of approaches made by the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority to councils between the Rakaia and Ashley rivers for their districts to come within a wider planning district. A meeting of the authority ‘yesterday was told that the Akaroa. Mount Herbert, and : Rangiora county councils and the Rangiora Borough Council were agreeable to be included in a reconstituted [planning authority. | Uncommitted, but likely to be favourable, were the Eyre .and Paparua county councils '(parts of whose districts are in the authority’s district) and the Lyttelton Borough Counicil. The Malvern County Council was conditionally opposed to the scheme, while the Ellesmere, Oxford, and Wairewa county councils were opposed to it. The chairman (Mr D. B. Rich) said that the Minister was in favour of a wider planning district, blit did not wish to force any of the councils into it. He had the power to create a reconstituted planning authority.
