Table tennis rankings; Canterbury has 5
Five Canterbury junior table tennis players have received national rankings this year. The New Zealand under 18 champion, Miss P. A. Marks, tops the girls' list from her team-mate, Miss J. G. Morris, who won the under 16 national title and was runnerup in the under 18 event. The three members of the representative boys’ team, M. W. Burrowes, W. D. Adamson and G. J. Rhind, have all been seeded. R. E. Lee (Hamilton), top last year, and the present under 18 title-holder, has held his position, but Burrows has dropped from second to third, behind K. M. Palmer (Auckland), who was unranked last year. This was rather a strange
selection as Burrowes was runner-up to Lee in the national under 18 championships, won the South Island title, and beat Palmer in a club match. Rhind has improved three placings from last year to be seeded sixth, and Adamson (ninth) has gained his first ranking. The lists are: Boys.—Lea 1, Palmer 2, Burrowes 3, M. G. Saunders /Auckland) 4; B. M. Attwood (Hamilton) 5; Rhind 6. R. C. Blair (Franklin) 7. R. J. Moore (Auckland) 8. Adamson 9, G. P. Rau (Franklin) 10. Girls.—Miss Marks 1, Miss Morris 2, P. A. Hemara (Franklin) 3, D. J. Looms (Marlborough) 4, L. B. Smith (Bay of Plenty) 5, C. L. McGregor (Wellington) 6, C. J. Hutton (Auckland) 7, G. A. Laison (Bay of Plenty) 8. A. M. Brackenridge (Northland) 9, K. N. Wilson (South Canterbury) 10.
