BRIDGETOWN .

Three New Zealanders and two West Indians are named as the five cricketers of the year in the 1972 edition of the West Indies Cricket AnnuaL The New Zealanders are the batsman, G. M. Turner, the all-rounder, B. E. Congdon, and the fast bowler, B. R. Taylor, who toured the West Indies earlier this year. The Jamaican batsman, L. Rowe, and the Barbados all-rounder, ,D. H. Holford, complete the quintet.

Mr A. Cozier, the West Indian writer and broadcaster who edits the annual, said the New Zealanders were virtually auto-

matic choices because of their performances on the tour. Turner totalled 1214 runs in first-class matches on the tour and had a test average of 96. Congdon’s figures were 988 and 88.50. Taylor, although missing the first test, captured 27 wickets in the remaining four matches of the series and equalled the highest number of wickets taken by a touring bowler in a test series in the West Indies. S. P. Gupte (India) and J. S. Snow (England) had earlier taken 27 wickets in a West Indian series. Rowe made a world record test debut by scoring a double century and a century in the two innings of his first test.
