T.N.T. profit up 27 per cent

Thomas Nationwide Transport, Ltd, increased unaudited group net profit 27.4 per cent in the three months to September 30, compared with the previous corresponding period. Net earnings were $1,612,000 and earnings per share, on increased capital, were 5.8 c against 5.1 c for the previous period. Of the equity-accounted profit, group companies contributed $1,452,000 and associated companies $160,000 in excess of estimated dividends receivable.
Of the earnings for the corresponding quarter in 1971 $62,000 represented equity in the profits of associated companies. The result included T.N.T.’s equity in profits of Bulkships, Ltd, and Seatainer Terminals, Ltd, and Tasman Union, Ltd.
Income from Ansett Transport Industries Ltd, and R. W. Miller (Holdings), Ltd, was accounted for on a divi-dend-receivable basis only.
In Australia and New Zealand, trading conditions have been gradually improving since the beginning of the financial year, the acting chairman, Sir Peter Abeles, said. Turnover rose 13.1 per cent to more than $33.9m in the period.
