Presbyterians show deficit
(N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, October 31. Unless Presbyterians put more in the plate on Sundays, the Church will have to curtail its work in and outside New Zealand, the Presbyterian General Assembly was told yesterday. The chairman of the assembly’s finance committee (Mr J. R. Buttle) said normal church work would soon have to be reduced if contributions continued at their present rate. Mr Buttle said that in spite of a substantial response by the Church to previous warnings by the finance committee, the deficit in the revenue accounts had grown tenfold to $12,000 in the last year.
West Coast candidate. — A retired accountant and former Collector of Customs in Wellington, Mr C. F. Woods, will be the New Democrat candidate for the West Coast seat in the General Election. Educated at Nelson College and Victoria University, Mr Woods has taken an active part in community affairs and is also a former hotel proprietor.
