School of drama
Twelve students for 1973 have been accepted by the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council Drama School in Wellington.
They are: Aisne Arbuthnot, Hamilton; John Black, Wellington; Greta Campbell, Napier; Catherine Downes, Wellington; Janet Findlay, Palmerston North; Peter Hayden, Palmerston North; Geraldine Holmes, Palmerston North: Bernard Mcßride, Christchurch; Peter Me- j Cauley, Auckland; Stephen McElrea, Dunedin; Ruth Obsoldstone, Wellington; and Peter Sakey, Taihape. Auditions were held at, Labour Week-end, when there was a record number of 24 applicants. The average age of the students accepted is 21. Miss Nola Millar, director of the drama school, said she felt that students in their late teens and early twenties had had more opportunity to decide whether they wished to dedicate themselves to a career in the theatre. “Youngsters straight from school are often inspired by enthusiasm, but find the rigours of the course and the pressures of theatrical life too demanding,” she said. “It is often better to have students who have seen something of life.” Seven students are attending the 1972 school.
