Film festival at week-end

A two-hour programme of nine of the top films from the Christchurch Movie Club’s international film competition is to be shown by the club in the Museum Theatre on Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday.

The films, which range in length from about four minutes to 20 minutes, are from Australia, Britain, Portugal, the United States, and New Zealand. They were judged in Christchurch earlier this month, by a panel comprising Mrs W. S. McGibbon, Mrs Wendy de la Bere, and Messrs S. D. Bain, L. W. Ford, A. C. Stanbury, M. V. Askew, and H. S. Wallis. Awards were made in four sections — documentary, fiction, travel, and genre — and there were separate technical awards as well as a premier award for the film considered by the judges to be the best entered in all sections. 'The latter prize went to an English documentary, “Hellfire Francis,” entered by the High Wycombe Film Society. This film, about Sir Francis Dashwood, has been given an Rl6 certificate. Other films to be shown in the festival are: “Eyes on Egypt,” by R. D. Charlton (Australia). This was judged the best travel film. “Just the Ticket,” by the Altrincham Cine Club (United Kingdom). This was judged to be one of the 10 best films entered. Earlier this year it won an award as the best club film in the United States. ; “Rain Clouds over Fiordland,” by lan Fisher, of Christchurch. The judges selected this as the best film on a New Zealand subject. “Rojada,” by E. Branco (Portugal), This was chosen as the best fiction film. “The Little Monastery at

the Side of the Road,” by K. Krainsz (United States), a comedy.

“Apple Sculpture,” by F. L. Kreznar (United States), a documentary.
